We loved seeing the quick review on StylingiPadApps.com, especially the part about “A beautifully designed book club application.” Thanks for promoting us. We will be live in the app store on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010.

Although it was reported as a glass-half-empty story on Yahoo Finance, two-thirds of all iPad owners are using their devices to read books on. I think this is a higher number than most people would think since so much of the book-reading attention has been given to the Kindle and Nook. Yahoo Finance makes the claim that book reading is getting overlooked on the iPad. They say:

The fact that over a million iPad buyers haven’t used the gadget for e-books shows that not all new gadgets equate to a new e-reader,” says Michael Norris, senior trade book analyst at Simba Information. “Research has already shown us that with multi-use devices, reading falls down on the list of things to do.

This is slightly misleading though. Some analysts say that 28 million iPads could be sold in 2011. Seems like 65 percent of that numbers is a pretty signficant group that is very interested in books. The remaining 35 percent could also be using the device for research as to which titles to buy and then reading them on their Kindle or Nook. Regardless, this report is misleading and doesn’t provide much of a claim that the iPad is suffering.

Apps like our forthcoming Book Club Leader are aimed at the interface side of the iPad and how you can use it to make your book experience that much better. Whether people are using the device to read is just a small part of how the iPad is changing publishing.
